Team takes on 90-day fitness challenge
A TEAM from Belford Hospital in Fort William is putting its best foot forward in a bid to improve members’ fitness and raise money for the hospital they work in.
The team, which consists of staff from a wide range of disciplines, started a 90day challenge on Sunday which will see them walk or run 100km, climb Ben Nevis and walk part of the West Highland Way.
Mhairi Mackinnon, senior charge nurse for Ward 1 at the hospital, explained that there was a desire among those taking part to improve their fitness but they also saw it as a way to raise some extra money to benefit the hospital.
She said: ‘This is going to be a great team-building event for all of us and the support we’ve received so far has been excellent and very much appreciated.
‘We are also using it as an opportunity to fundraise for the hospital so we can buy items which will bring extra comfort and further enhance the environment for our patients and their families.
‘Items such as relative and carer beds that can be used when we have patients in receiving end-of-life care and an upgrade to our stroke chairs will make a big difference to those using them.’
Mhairi added: ‘We’re very lucky here at the Belford as we do receive a number of donations from the local community. As a group we also wanted to get involved in giving back to the hospital.’
