Lochaber Rotary Club AM AM raises thousands for charity

-

ON A BRILLIANTLY sunny Sunday morning, just under 20 teams teed off on the Rotary Club of Lochaber’s annual AMAM golf competition at Fort William Golf Club.

This was the 18th year of the event and, thanks to the generosity of local business sponsorship, the total amount raised to date is now more than £65,000. The main sponsors this year were Marine Harvest and John McLellan & Co, Funeral Director.

Rotary president Donald McCorkindale said: ‘We are extremely grateful to our sponsors and to Fort William Golf Club for allowing us to use their course for this annual competition. It is a major fund raiser for our charity programme and enables us to support numerous good causes in Lochaber. I would like to emphasise that, thanks to our own members donating their time and organisational skills, we have no administrative overheads and that every single penny is used for local charities and worthy causes.’

After the prizes had been presented, tournament co-ordinator and past-president, Donald Young thanked the sponsors, the golf club and the Rotarians and helpers that made the tournament a resounding success.

‘Most importantly, we thank the competitors who support us year-on-year and make it possible for the Rotary Club to support so many worthwhile local causes,’ added Mr Young. ‘Our raffle alone raised nearly £500 and, taken altogether, we have now raised more than £65,000 over the 18 years of the tournament.’
