Oban Live is the best one yet ...
In a finale to end all finales, Oban High School Pipe Band joined Skerryvore on stage at Oban Live on Saturday night to the delight of the thousands in the audience. For the full story and four pages of photographs,
Just under 8,000 music lovers flocked to Argyll’s biggest outdoor music event at Mossfield Stadium, Oban, last weekend.
They enjoyed a brilliant mix of Scots Trad, pop and rock music in glorious sunshine.
Oban welcomed thousands of visitors to the town from all over the world who joined locals for the massive cultural party. Friday’s line-up included a stream of fantastic acts, including Blazin’ Fiddles, Hermitage Green, Tide Lines and headliners Skipinnish.
And 19-year-old singer writer Kathleen Robertson, winner of The Oban Timessponsored Oban Unsigned competition, opened the show with a stunning set.
Saturday’s line-up included Rhuvaal, Chunks, Heron Valley, Sharon Shannon, Peatbog Faeries and headliners Skerryvore.
An impressive all-star lineup of 24 top names in the Scottish traditional music industry came together on Friday, exclusively for Oban Live, in a collaboration named Sons of Argyll.
The project paid homage to late inspirational figures from the region who had played a key role in the lives and music of the performers involved.
Musicians from Tide Lines, Skipinnish, Skerryvore, Blazin’ Fiddles, Trail West and Gunna Sound, as well as this year’s Mòd gold medallists Rachel Walker and Alasdair Currie, members of
Oban Gaelic Choir and world class pipers were included in the project line-up. Also involved were Marie Fielding, Phil Cunningham, Craig and Hector MacFadyen, Sileas Sinclair, Mary Catherine MacNeil and Archie and Alex McAllister.
Sons of Argyll, founded and co-ordinated by Trail West’s Ian Smith, paid particular tribute to the recently passed Norman MacLean, Tiree/Uist; Ian’s father Bernie Smith, Tiree; Murdo MacLeod, Lochgilphead; Angus MacColl, Mull; Nonny MacInnes, Oban; Colin Campbell, Oban; Calum MacLean, Tobermory, and many more.
