Carers find new home at Rockfield

-

Argyll Carers Centre will move from its current premises on Albany Street to The Rockfield Centre, Oban, when the building is refurbished.

North Argyll Carers Centre supports unpaid family carers across Oban, Lorn and the Isles. Currently more than 600 carers and more than 100 young carers between the ages of eight and 18 are supported by the organisation.

The centre has a team of workers supporting carers across the area, including island-based workers on Mull, Iona, Coll and Tiree.

Manager Morag MacLean said: ‘We have long outgrown our current premises. Rockfield will give us the chance to expand. It keeps us in the town centre and is accessible for everyone.

‘We are aware there are many more carers in our community that are not accessing support and this is a further opportunity to connect with more carers to ensure they get the support they need.’

Gordon McNab, chairman of Oban Communities Trust, said: ‘It is particularly relevant during carer’s week to announce our delight regarding the plans for the carer centre to establish itself within The Rockfield Centre.

‘This builds on our already established “well-being” theme and the work planned with the Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal to support a quiet space within the main centre building.’
