-

This Saturday, June 16, Ceol ‘s Craic, in association with An Lòchran, present Ginealach Ùr in the Centre for Contemporary Arts on Sauchiehall Street – an evening featuring some of the biggest names in contemporary Gaelic music to celebrate the inspirational mentors and teachers who provide encouragement and inspiration for the next generation of performers.

Iain ‘Costello’ MacIver and John Murray will mark the 25th anniversary of the formation of their band, New Tradition, with the release of their latest album, Hebridean Sky. Ceòl ‘s Craic is delighted to welcome them to perform songs from the new release and favourites from their extensive back catalogue.

Costello has been a champion of Gaelic culture and inspired many contemporary musicians through his work as a music teacher iand his own prolific musical output over the years.

Also performing will be Mischa Macpherson and Friends.

Lewis-born Mischa is a multi-award-winning singer and harpist – claiming MG Alba Gaelic Singer of the Year and a BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award among her many accolades.

She is also one of Iain MacIver’s successful former pupils. Mischa has spoken of the profound effect Iain had on her decision to forge a career in Gaelic traditional music.

Mischa will be appearing with Kathleen MacInnes, Kim Carnie, Alistair Iain Paterson and Innes White.

As well as Costello and Mishca, an even younger generation will take to the stage – the pupils of the Glasgow Gaelic School.

Especially for this event, Ceòl ‘s Craic and An Lòchran have commissioned Mischa to undertake a series of workshops with a group of aspiring young vocalists from Glasgow’s Gaelic School.

Their performance at Ceòl ‘s Craic will demonstrate the growth in interest for Gaelic culture and song, which is being nurtured at the Gaelic School and passed on to a new generation – which is the crux of what this evening is about.

Doors open at 7.30pm and under-18s will be admitted until 10pm.
