‘Fantastic’ Sunart Show is huge success
Organisers have hailed this year’s Sunart Agricultural Show as a ‘huge success’ as a big crowd flocked to Strontian to see the best livestock, terriers and handicrafts the area has to offer.
With sunny spells throughout the day, Strontian Showfield had a real buzz about it on Saturday as visitors crowded round the busy stalls and toured the show pens to get a glimpse of this year’s entries. There was plenty to keep youngsters entertained, including Bubbles the Clown and the games stalls, which kept faces smiling.
In the competitions, Robbie MacDougall was crowned Champion of Champions this year with his Castle Grantbred Cheviot Three Shear.
David Wright had another successful show, winning an array of competitions with his cattle entries, while Sam MacKenzie and John Nudds once again performed well with their Blackface sheep.
Show secretary Nikki Robertson said that the show was a ‘huge success’, but more importantly she was relieved to get some brighter weather.
She said: ‘With the weather forecast at the beginning of the week saying it was to be wet, we were delighted to have a warm day on Saturday.
‘The field had lots of attractions, and the sheep and poultry entries were up this year, and the local craft tent had full tables. Among the new attractions this year were a dozen or so vintage motorbikes – with Loch Shiel Garage bringing its Foden truck – which were a huge hit with the children and their dads.’
The adults donned their dancing shoes in the evening and enjoyed a lively night of entertainment thanks to music by Robert Nairn.
Nikki continued: ‘The committee would like to thank all the volunteers who come along to help with the show and stock judging day. We always welcome new committee members and hold regular meetings.’
