Summer may be over, but there’s still plenty to look forward to

Another exciting and hectic weekend is approaching at speed.

On Saturday we have the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final between Newtonmore and Lovat at 2pm in Mossfield. It’s always an exciting event and well worth going along to.

I always let visitors to the town know about it as it’s a fantastic spectacle for people who have never heard of shinty before. It’s also being televised on BBC2, so if you’re going along remember to brush your hair and wash your face, you never know who’ll see you on TV.

On Sunday we have the annual Motorfest, which for the second year will be in Station Square, which is a fantastic venue for it – lots of space for the growing number of vehicles (about 70) which appear each year and this year we have the added benefit of The Clan Mountain Bike Stunt Show which will be amazing and a huge draw for bike fans of all ages.

If you like your lunch included in your day out at Motorfest you’ll also be delighted to hear that The Olive Garden is holding its first carvery of the autumn, which sounds ideal to me – a lovely lunch and then a gentle stroll admiring all the cars to walk it off gently. Just don’t try any of the bike stunts!

On Wednesday we had our last cruise ship of the season, unless we get any unexpected calls, and you can feel the difference in the town, it’s just that wee bit quieter which is quite nice in a way after the hectic summer but there are still lots of things to look forward to.

Head out to Taynuilt on Saturday evening after the shinty to enjoy some fantastic young musicians with the Young Trad Tour which features finalists from BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017.

Last week’s photograph was of the sign at Dolce Vita on George Street, which is a beautiful sign by Sheila MacGregor and Louie Barrow with the stained glass by Peter MacLellan.

This week’s photograph is a wee bit harder to spot, you need to pay attention.
