United Auctions held its annual show and sale of Blackface wedder lambs, sponsored by the Blackface Sheep Breeders’ Associatio­n, also a sale of all classes cross bred lambs and feeding sheep at Dalmally Auction Mart on September 8.

A catalogued entry of 8,002 lambs and sheep sold to a packed ringside of buyers.

William Dunlop, Elmscleugh, judged the various classes of Blackface lambs and his awards are as follows: 1 and champion pen taking the James Weir Memorial Trophy – Achnaba - £58. 2 Tullochan - £51 and 3 Tayvallich Estate - £45.50. As in line with other centres, lambs were weighing 2k to 3k lighter on the year, neverthele­ss, most sellers were receiving £2 to £5 per head more on the year. Overall lambs sold to average £39.98 per head or 149.2 per kilo (+ £3.48 per head or 15.7 pence per kilo) whilst the Blackface section averaged £37.35 per head or 128.6 per kilo. United Auctions held its annual show and sale of Blackface wedder lambs (sponsored by Reid and Robertsons and the Blackface Sheep Breeders’ Associatio­n) and sale of cross bred lambs and feeding sheep on September 4. 3,093 lambs and sheep were sold. The overall sale average was £40.79 (+ £8.97 on the year). The Blackface wedder lambs averaged £36.51(+ £4.30 on the year). The show was judged by Alan King, Reid and Robertsons, and his awards were as follows: 1 and Champion Pen, Saulmore £51.50; 2 Achalic, £45; 3 Glenfeocha­n, £43.50. A good offering of quality bred lambs were presented to a strong force of buyers.
