United Auc­tions held its an­nual show and sale of Black­face wed­der lambs, spon­sored by the Black­face Sheep Breed­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion, also a sale of all classes cross bred lambs and feed­ing sheep at Dal­mally Auc­tion Mart on Septem­ber 8.

A cat­a­logued en­try of 8,002 lambs and sheep sold to a packed ring­side of buy­ers.

Wil­liam Dun­lop, Elm­scle­ugh, judged the var­i­ous classes of Black­face lambs and his awards are as fol­lows: 1 and champion pen tak­ing the James Weir Memo­rial Tro­phy – Achn­aba - £58. 2 Tul­lochan - £51 and 3 Tay­val­lich Es­tate - £45.50. As in line with other cen­tres, lambs were weigh­ing 2k to 3k lighter on the year, nev­er­the­less, most sell­ers were re­ceiv­ing £2 to £5 per head more on the year. Over­all lambs sold to av­er­age £39.98 per head or 149.2 per kilo (+ £3.48 per head or 15.7 pence per kilo) whilst the Black­face sec­tion av­er­aged £37.35 per head or 128.6 per kilo. United Auc­tions held its an­nual show and sale of Black­face wed­der lambs (spon­sored by Reid and Robert­sons and the Black­face Sheep Breed­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion) and sale of cross bred lambs and feed­ing sheep on Septem­ber 4. 3,093 lambs and sheep were sold. The over­all sale av­er­age was £40.79 (+ £8.97 on the year). The Black­face wed­der lambs av­er­aged £36.51(+ £4.30 on the year). The show was judged by Alan King, Reid and Robert­sons, and his awards were as fol­lows: 1 and Champion Pen, Saul­more £51.50; 2 Achalic, £45; 3 Glen­feochan, £43.50. A good of­fer­ing of qual­ity bred lambs were pre­sented to a strong force of buy­ers.
