When we were children we all wished we could be on our holidays every day.

Now we are all grown-up that wish can almost come true – if we invest in a holiday home.

If the words ‘holiday’ and ‘home’ make you groan and think it is all just too much of a responsibility, then add the word ‘park’ and it suddenly becomes far more easy and doable.

Tucked away across Argyll and the islands, and into Lochaber and the Highlands, are some truly splendid holiday home parks – as varied as the needs and wants of their owners.

But they all have the same ideal: an easy to buy, maintain, and affordable solution for holidays.

Think about it: suddenly you can pop off for a break at the drop of a hat. All across Scotland, from Thursday night through to Friday afternoon and evening, people are packing their cars and heading for a weekend break or longer.

Yes, it is nice to relax at home, but getting right away for the nine-to-five at the office, factory or school makes a break so much more; a real restorative. You would be surprised how many people who live here in the West Highlands actually have holiday homes somewhere in the area themselves.

We really are lucky in this region. Take your pick: the upper reaches of the Clyde estuary, Loch Lomond, the Cowal and Kintyre peninsulas, Mid Argyll’s hidden gems, all of Lorn and Oban to explore; the mountains and lochs of Lochaber and masses of islands to explore, each with their own unique character. All are ideal locations for, or can be reached in a day from, your holiday park.

Perhaps you are more of a coast person and you arrive at your holiday home with the boot full of diving gear or a kayak lashed to the roof; or a fisherman with a wee boat in tow.

Or you turn inland as a cyclist with bikes on a rack, or a mountaineer with some fierce looking axes and ropes in the boot. Perhaps you just want some peace and quiet and bring a soothing amount of books, magazines and your paint box.

Holiday park homes are great for all the family and especially children who, in these days of car-choked roads, can actually get out and play.

Today’s holiday homes are full of the comforts of home, with washing machines, fridge-freezers (which can be kept stocked so you can arrive on a whim) and essential communications such as satellite TV and wifi hot spots.

And best of all they have a design quality and build which means they are energy efficient and cosy all-year-round. So the holidays can include Christmas and Hogmanay. What kid, big or wee, would not approve?
