Mallaig set up league play-off with Portree

-

Sleat and Strath 3 Mallaig 4

Mallaig’s narrow victory over Sleat and Strath on Saturday has set up a one-off league title decider against Portree after both teams finish the league on equal points.

A brace from Ross Douglas helped the Lochaber side secure a vital victory over title contenders Sleat and Strath, who now finish in fourth place.

Neil Cameron also got on the score sheet but it was an own goal that proved to be the difference between the two sides in a tightly-contested match.

Following Portree’s 4-1 victory over Portree Juniors, the island side will face-off against Mallaig after their respective victories left both teams on 39 points. Due to league rules, the league is not decided on goal difference and so the two prospective champions will take part in a play-off.

Looking ahead to the title decider, manager Jamie McGregor said: ‘I’m very proud of all the lads no matter what. It’s been a long season and the lads have been fully committed all year.’
