Another hectic weekend in store

- Around Oban KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

What a great weekend we’ve just had – a top level shinty match, which was televised and brought lots of people to the town, and then Motorfest, which was a fantastic day out for the whole family.

The Clan Mountain Bike Stunt Show certainly kept everyone entertained along with all the beautiful classic cars and emergency vehicles.

Now we have another hectic weekend ahead of us.

This weekend we have lots to look forward to even though one or two of the events might mean us leaving the town boundaries.

Today (Thursday) we have Irish/country singer Lisa McHugh appearing in the Corran Halls.

It is always good to have the weekend start with topclass music, as it puts you in the right frame of mind for things to come.

On Saturday we have the fantastic event that is We’ll Walk This Road Together. Sadly, this will be the last one, so if you don’t have your tickets yet then get them now. It’s a great event to support, especially in memory of the lovely Nonny MacInnes who started it all.

Also on Saturday, we have the start of the Bookends Festival in Benderloch, which has everything about books, writers and reading and sounds fantastic. Check out its Facebook page, Bookends Festival Benderloch, which will keep you up-to-date with all the things they have on until September 29.

On Sunday the World Stone Skimming Championships take place on Easdale Island and I always wonder how they can squeeze so many people on such a small island but it is an amazing event with people from all over the world taking part (the clue’s in the title).

Competitions start at noon with registration from 10am, so if you think you’re up to it, then have a go. You never know – you might just surprise yourself.

The photo last week seems to have you scratching your heads. It was taken outside The Smiddy at the top of George Street and caught my eye while I was window shopping.

Hopefully, this week’s photo will be a little easier.
