STRATHFILLAN

Strathfillan Community Council has been told there were more than 30 calls made to the police in the area in the past month.

The breakdown of figures show that 11 calls were made for road traffic collisions, while another six were received for other road-related incidents.

There were three calls for assistance, four for concern calls, three regarding fires, one mountain rescue, two for animals, one for theft and one for found property.

The one theft, which has since been resolved, happened when someone drove off without paying for fuel. It was amended over the phone.

The figures were revealed at the monthly Strathfillan Community Council meeting.

The police representative said: ‘There has been a high number of foreign tourists in hire cars on the roads, as I am sure you will be aware.

‘The unusually high number of road accidents has been the result of unfamiliarity of the roads and being on the opposite side.

‘There have been a large number of wing mirror strikes which, albeit minor, are still classed as a road accident.’

The police officer added: ‘Outside the area, we have had a couple of thefts of diesel from remote areas so can I ask you to be vigilant re strange vehicles in forests.’
