Oban church’s very own baby boom

-

Four young mums who are members of Oban Baptist Church have all joined the club – the baby girls’ club, that is – having all given birth to daughters within a few weeks of each other.

Praise be! First-time mums at Oban Baptist Church have had four baby girls all in a row.

Amy Inglis had six-monthold Sofia first, followed by mum Melody McCulloch three months later with baby Lucy before Becky Anderson had Alice, now eight weeks old, and Moilla Holban celebrated the birth of Arianna two weeks ago.

The mums were all friends through church before finding out they were expecting new arrivals.

Amy, who lives in Oban, said: ‘It was really exciting when we found out that our babies were going to be born into a ready-made friendship group.’

For Melody, there was a last-minute surprise when the boy she was told she was expecting turned out to be a girl. ‘It was lovely thinking she was going to be able to join the girl gang,’ she said.

Becky said: ‘It’s great we’ve got each other. We can share our experiences, ask each other about things and be learner mums together.’

All of the mums moved into the Oban area with no wider family nearby but Baptist Church members have been happy to fill the gap.

‘We’ve been well looked after. We’ve all had knocks at the door bringing us meals and home-baking. We’ve got a wonderful extended family right here in our church,’ said Moilla.

Minister Stuart Lawson said the church’s congregation had tripled in size in the past five years but four babies born in such a quick succession was ‘quite a boost’ to its numbers.

‘We’ve got about 100 people now and under-18s make up quite a big part of our congregation.

‘Obviously four babies is quite a boost. It’s lovely to celebrate new life.’
