Kilninver primary tunes up for music lessons

-

Kilninver Primary School parents and children are trying to raise £840 each term for music lessons for the children.

There is currently no music tuition provision in the schools budget, and a small number of instruments lie unused.

So far the children, with the help of parents, have produced a recipe book of sweet treats, staged a successful panto and are now organising a karaoke night in Kilmelford hall on October Friday 26. They will also be washing cars for those attending the Kilmelford hall craft fair on Sunday November 4 and doing a Burns-themed quiz on January 25.

With many former pupils from the school pursuing music either as a profession or as a serious hobby, the teachers and parents thought it was a shame the current crop of youngsters could not benefit as their predecessors had from this important life skill and shared cultural heritage.

Louisa Llewellyn, of the school parent council, said: ‘We only have 20 households in the school family so raising £840 each term is a tall order.

‘We have been turned down for grants and other sources of funding but are busy applying for more and are very lucky to have had some tremendous support from local businesses in Oban, Kilmelford, Arduaine and Seil.

‘Plus, we have had some heartfelt donations from individuals to our Just Giving page (search for Kilninver Primary School).’
