Literary Highland hoolie blows into Mallaig in November

A ‘write’ Highland hoolie is heading for Mallaig next month.

The town’s book festival will be making itself at home under one roof at the West Highland Hotel from November 9 to November 11.

Organisers of what will be the third festival say it will be more exciting than ever, with a line-up of fabulous authors joining them for the a weekend of literary celebratio­n. There will also be good food and live music.

The festival launches with a Friday drinks reception for opening event ticket holders, hosted by whisky expert Marc Ellington who will be revealing all about illicit distilling and whisky smuggling.

Saturday’s guests include broadcaste­r Sally Magnusson, writer of the Sealwoman’s Gift. Bookbug will also be there and there will be a feature writing workshop to list just a few of the offerings.

Sunday sees a session on The Hebrides with historian, filmmaker and broadcaste­r Paul Murton who is wellknown for his travelogue­s. Angus MacDonald will also be talking about his new book, We Fought For Ardnish, following the tale of Donald Angus Gillies growing up on the remote Ardnish Peninsula.

The weekend will end with a prize-giving, rewarding the winners of a creative writing competitio­n for primary and high school pupils. High school parents are providing an afternoon tea. Donations will go to school projects.
