VIEW FROM THE CHAMBER

-

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) West Highland was delighted with the number of businesses who applied for the Developing the Young Workforce category at this year’s prestigious Highland Business Awards.

Lochaber Chamber of Commerce member businesses Ferguson Transport and Shipping and Lochaber Hope both received Highly Commended awards for their work to help the young workforce in the West Highlands.

Applicants were judged on opportunities and training offered, relationships with schools and colleges and how the investment in young people enhances the organisation’s overall growth and capability.

These companies demonstrated fantastic efforts to develop the potential of their younger members of staff.

Hosted by Lochaber Chamber of Commerce, Developing the Young Workforce West Highland forms part of the Scottish Government’s youth employment strategy.

This aims to ensure young people in Scotland have the skills and confidence they need to make the seamless transition from school to the workforce. This means the DYW team works closely with high school pupils and employers throughout the West Highlands to develop training events and initiatives to help prepare young people for the world of work.
