Dalmally – United Auctions held a sale on Friday October 5 of 2793 lambs and sheep. A good attendance of buyers ensured all stock was easily sold to sellers’ advantage. Lambs averaged £39.86 per head (+ £7.24) or 148.94 pence per kilo (+ 33.32 pence per kilo). Breeding and feeding sheep sold at levels prevailing at other principal centres. Oban – United Auctions held their Annual Show and Sale of Suckled Calves at Oban Livestock Centre when they sold 942 head. Although calves in general were well shown, they lacked weight and condition on the year and the downward trends set at earlier sales of Spring Born Calves was evident on the day. Bullocks levelled out at £562.29 per head or 219.92 pence per kilo (- 43.27 pence per kilo). Heifers levelled out at £473.01 per head or 190.15 pence per kilo (- 42.71 pence per kilo). The show was judged by Mr J Cowie, Nicolson Park, Fordyce and he awarded the Championsh­ip to a Limousin Cross Bullock from W Buchanan, Lag-An-Fhiodhain which later realised £1020 or 267 pence per kilo. Reserve Championsh­ip went to a Limousin Cross Heifer, consigned by D MacDonald, Tyree, she later sold for £1620 or 389.4 pence per kilo.
