On Saturday October 6, young Darryl McLaughlin, along with the rest of the IKKU team, took part in the British Open Knockdown Karate tournament at the K2 Centre in Crawley. There will be a full report in two weeks. This is Darryl’s last year fighting as a Cadet (16 and 17 years) before he goes on to the adult novice category.
The club is now concentrating on syllabus work with the next grading test in December. The next intake for new starters will be after that test.

Kickboxing
This Oban club practices K-1 style kickboxing. K-1’s predecessor Seidokaikan Karate was formed in 1980 by Kazuyoshi Ishii, a former Kyokushin karate practitioner who had formed his own organisation to help promote the best stand-up martial artists. Seidokaikan arranged several successful challenge events against other martial arts organisations, originally using rules based on the Kyokushin Knockdown karate rules, but gradually adapting and changing closer to kickboxing rules. In 1993, Mr Ishii founded the K-1 organisation exclusively for kickboxing.
The Oban club sessions are Wednesdays at 4.30pm for juniors and 6pm for seniors at the Old Crofters above Stoddard’s Motorbike shop. Phone Wullie on 07480 273190 or email shihanwill@gmail.com. You can also find them on Facebook as Senshi Do Kickboxing.
