The Oban Times

It’s still all go as winter approaches

Well done to everyone involved in DoveAid last Saturday.

What a great night it was – three fantastic bands and a fantastic cause. I really hope we get more events like this.

The View was a great venue and, for someone of a certain age, like myself, it was really good to have somewhere to go and dance the night away without feeling decrepit.

This weekend we have another excellent charity event with Cancer Research hosting a fashion show in M&Co on Friday at 6.30pm.

The Corran Halls are going to be a busy place this weekend with comedian Scott Gibson tonight (Thursday) and GinFall on Saturday, a celebration of everything to do with gin. We also have the clocks changing this weekend which means an extra hour in bed on Sunday morning, thank goodness. I think I might need it!

And that brings us into November with lots to look forward to, starting with Oban’s annual spectacular fireworks display on November 5 and, thanks to Scottish Sea Farms, this year will be the best yet.

We’re inviting charities to have a stall in Station Square that evening to make it worth coming down and spending some time in the town centre while you wait for the fireworks to begin. If you’re interested in having a stall, contact the BID4Oban office on 01631 569915 or email us at admin@bid4oban.co.uk.

I know I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here, so don’t shout at me, but it’s nearly time for Santa to come, the reindeer parade is being talked about at work and, I must admit, I’m getting a wee bit excited. I will try to contain myself until Hallowe’en and the fireworks are past but it’s not easy. BID chief executive Andrew Spence says he’s spoken to Santa to check we’re in his diary, and we are. Roll on winter!

Last week’s photo was the entrance to Café Shore. This week’s is really easy – honest.
