MSP’s Christmas card prize hits new heights
The prize for winning Lochaber MSP Kate Forbes’ constituency Christmas card competition has been taken to new heights, after Nevis Range agreed to print the winning design on one of its carriages.
Courtesy of the UK’s only mountain gondola, the winner will also get a gondola trip up Aonach Mor, as well as seeing their front cover distributed across Kate Forbes MSP’s Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency.
In previous years there have been hundreds of entrants from primary schools across the Highlands, but the unique prize is likely to attract increased interest in this year’s competition.
Kate Forbes MSP said: ‘In the past, a local business has donated a prize and covered the modest costs of printing the cards.
‘This year, I am excited to be partnering with Nevis Range, which draws in tens of thousands of visitors all year round.
‘I am absolutely delighted that Nevis Range has offered a trip up Aonach Mor and promised to print the winning design on the side of one of its gondolas.
‘As we head towards winter, and the skiers and snowboarders make their way to Lochaber, I love the idea that they’ll head up the mountain in a gondola and see a festive design by a primary school pupil.’
Ms Forbes hopes the new prize will encourage more school pupils to take part.
Chris O’Brien, CEO of Nevis Range, added: ‘There’s nothing more Christmassy than Nevis Range in the snow!
‘We can’t wait to showcase the winning design and we’re delighted to be partnering with Kate.’
Every primary school in the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency has been sent a letter from Kate Forbes MSP inviting them to participate in the competition, with the short brief of an A5 drawing on the theme of a Highland winter – featuring aspects of the region’s landscape, culture and sports.
Subject to space, all entries will be displayed in the window of Kate Forbes MSP’s constituency office on Dingwall High Street.
The closing date for submissions is mid-November.
