Traigh course teed up for book boost

A new book celebratin­g the most scenic golf courses in the British Isles will provide a welcome boost to the coffers at Traigh Golf Course, near Morar, which is listed in the publicatio­n alongside some of the most famous courses in world golf.

Written and illustrate­d by the joint owner of Traigh Farm and Golf Course, David Shaw Stewart, Views from the Tee is a handy illustrate­d guide to some of the most fun, interestin­g and challengin­g courses in Britain and Ireland.

The book will not only provide a boost to Traigh’s reputation as a must-visit golf destinatio­n, but golfers at the west coast course can expect to see some benefit as all proceeds of its sales will be invested back into the running of the course. David, now one of four joint owners of the course, along with his brother Patrick, after inheriting it from his father Jack Shaw at the end of 2013, described the West Lochaber course as his ‘favourite course in all the world’ and ‘a delight in every sort of weather’, albeit a bit challengin­g.

In an excerpt from the book, David wrote: ‘The new course was my dear father Jack’s great vision and I think of it as his memorial, giving a huge amount of happiness to the many golfers who have played there.’

The course, which looks out over Morar sands toward the Small Isles, Eigg, Rum and Muck, has been a home for golfers in the area since around 1900. It was originally a private course, only for the use of the owners and their friends, and it was cramped, with several fairways cross-
