Spectacular success for Lions club appeal

-

Oban and Lorn Lions Club has been donated more than 1,000 pairs of old glasses for its Recycle for Sight Appeal, which gives the gift of sight to people in developing countries.

The spectacles will be sent to Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, Ghana and Nepal, where eye care and prescription glasses are not available to those who need them most.

At the start of their appeal this year, Lions press officer Jim Edge explained: ‘The inability to see clearly can prevent children from learning in school and adults from finding work, but by working with other Lions clubs around the world, we can bring clear vision to millions, one pair at a time.’

A team of local Lions volunteers cleaned and sorted the glasses, before sending them to be distributed to clinics in some of the world’s poorest countries.
