Fireworks were better than ever

- Around Oban KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

I hope everyone enjoyed the fireworks as much as I did.

Fire Worx Scotland of Inverurie outdid themselves this year and it was great to have stalls in Station Square with lots of lovely hot food, Oban and Lorn Lions fundraising and Scottish Sea Farms (SSF) handing out reusable bamboo cups. SSF also deserve a big vote of thanks for the funding which made this year’s display bigger and better.

Have a wee look on our LoveOban Facebook page and you can see some of the amazing photos – and thanks to everyone who posted photos.

We’re coming up for Remembrance Day on Sunday, which makes it quite special especially with this being the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.

This year there will be a concert in St Columba’s Cathedral at 4pm which will also have an exposition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence.

There’s also quite a lot happening in the town on Friday and Saturday, with Cancer Research Oban holding a quiz in the Masonic Hall on Friday night and on Saturday Oban Pipe Band are having a soup lunch in the Band Hall to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

If you’re a music lover, Charlie Landsborough is in the Corran Halls on Friday, and not forgetting our own Phoenix Cinema which has lots of good things on at the moment, including Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born.

Dunollie also has lots to offer at the moment. If you’ve never visited, now is the time to book A Day at Dunollie to find out all about the MacDougalls and, if you have children under five, then the Explore Outdoor Club is for you but remember your wellies and hats for both these days out.

Last week’s photograph was of the water treatment plant next to the Corran Halls. This week’s is on George Street but you’ll only spot it if you look up a bit.
