Celebrate St Andrew’s Day with free tickets
To help celebrate St Andrew’s Day, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is launching a free ticket giveaway to some of Argyll and Bute’s top heritage visitor attractions.
HES has thousands of free tickets to give away to some of the most iconic sites in the country on Saturday and Sunday, November 24 and 25, as part of the build-up to this year’s St Andrew’s Day celebrations.
The MacDougall stronghold of Dunstaffnage Castle and Iona Abbey, a vibrant centre of Christian worship ever since St Columba arrived in AD563, are among 35 attractions taking part in the promotion throughout Scotland.
The registration for free tickets will close at 5pm on Friday November 23. Visitors will get the chance to claim their free tickets by simply registering online at www. ticketgiveaway.co.uk and applying for tickets to the attraction of their choice.
The ticket giveaway is part of the Scottish Government’s winter festivals which kicks off with St Andrew’s Day and carries through Christmas and Hogmanay and up until Burns Night.
Stephen Duncan, director of commercial and tourism at HES, said: ‘Exploring our sites is a great way to learn more about Scotland’s fascinating past and we want to encourage communities to take a step back in time and learn more about the significant historic stories in their local area.
‘By participating in the St Andrew’s ticket giveaway, visitors will have the opportunity to access our iconic castles, abbeys and palaces for free over the weekend, so there is something for everyone.
‘If you’ve never visited your local historic site, then this is the perfect opportunity as it gives visitors the unique chance to get a taste of what’s available in their area for free.’
