WHAT’S ON in Lochaber
The Leanachan Challenge cross country competition for secondary schools takes place today (Thursday November 8) at Lochaber Rural Education Centre.
Pupils from Kinlochleven, Lochaber High, Mallaig, Ardnamurchan, Kilchuimen, Glenurquhart and Portree will be competing, as well as teams from Tobermory who will be taking part for the first time. The event is organised by the Active Schools co-ordinator in conjunction with Lochaber Rural Education Trust. The event starts at 11am, with the prize-giving and lunch at about 12.15pm.
SNP Lochaber and North Lorn is holding a coffee morning for members and guests with Kate Forbes MSP on Saturday November 10, at Fort William Shinty Club from 10am until noon. This is a free event. Donations of baking would be welcome. Anyone able to conribute should email liahunter1@hotmail.co.uk.
Fort William Town Team will hold its next meeting on Monday November 12 at 7pm in the West End Hotel.
The AGM of the Nevis Landscape Partnership will be held at Voluntary Action Lochaber, An Drochaid, Fort William, on Tuesday November 13 at 5.30pm.
Fort William Photographic Society’s next meeting is on Tuesday November 13 at 7pm in the Salvation Army hall. Claire McLeod will be talking about using a drone and the making of her film, Bhaltos Isle of Lewis. Non-members welcome.
Lochaber Music for All presents the Kapten Piano Trio on Thursday November 15 at St Columba’s Primary School at 7.30pm. Tickets available at the door.
The Kilmallie Christmas lights switch-on takes place on November 16 at 7pm
at Kilmallie Community Centre, Corpach. Everyone is welcome.
Friends of Nevis invite people to join the Glen Nevis autumn litter-pick and curling pond tidy-up on Sunday November 18 from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Meet at the Ben Nevis Highland Centre (Woollen Mill) at 10.30am.
All safety and litter picking equipment provided, together with refreshments and lunch. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult family member, and sturdy footwear and waterproofs are advisable.

Lochaber Athletic Club’s AGM will take place on Sunday November 18, 7.30pm at Lochaber Yacht Club, Fort William. This is a good opportunity to discuss the ‘running’ of the club, raise ideas and make suggestions. Everyone is welcome.
Kilmallie Community Centre is holding a grand ceilidh in aid of Bun-Sgoil Ghaidhlig Loch Abar and the community centre on Saturday November 24.
The event runs from 7.3011.30pm and music will be supplied by a range of artists including the Bruce Lindsay Scottish Dance Band and Edinburgh Postal Pipe Band, plus singers Norman MacKinnon, Donald Angie Matheson, Ruaridh Grey and Joyce Wright. Admission £8.
Lochaber Foodbank will hold its annual collection in the Tesco store in Fort William on November 29 and 30 and December 1, from 10am to 4pm each day. Foodbank volunteers will be there for the collections, and all food and money collected stays in the area to help the local communities.
