❚ The Lochalsh branch of Royal British Legion Scotland held a bingo session at Balmacara House on October 31 and raised £143 for branch funds. Next bingo is tonight (Thursday).

❚ Clair Jackson organised a Hallowe’en party and dance in Plockton Hall on October 27 raising more than £500 for Cancer Research.

❚ Plockton and District Horticultu­ral and Handicraft­s Society held its AGM in Plockton Hall on October 25. All the office-bearers were re-elected apart from Sue Winter, who has left the area. Lynne Kennedy was appointed catering officer in her place and Matthew Wakeford was added to the committee. The society donated the profits from its auction at the show to Highland Hospice which was £129. Three experts answered questions – Ron Johnstone on gardening, Alison Hearfield on cooking and Matt Wakeford on gardening. ❚ The Lochalsh branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland is holding a special event to mark the sailing from Kyle pier of HMY Iolaire on December 31, 1918. The event, which will include the unveiling of a special commemorat­ive plaque, will be held on the afternoon of December 31, 2018. The branch would like to invite relatives of those who sailed that fateful night to the event, and, to this end, would ask that any such relatives contact Andy Will on 01599 544276 or andy@plockton.org.uk
