Mull man was five times drink limit

The Oban Times - - NEWS -

By pleading guilty to drink driving at the first opportunity, a Mull man knocked £500 off his fine and six months off his driving ban.

Ian Simpson, of Dalmachmasg, Tobermory, admitted driving with a breath alcohol level of 106 when the legal limit is 22 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Sheriff John Herald was told that the incident happened on August 29 this year on the A848 near Tobermory.

Simpson’s car had left the road and a passer-by gave him a lift into Tobermory where his wife worked.

The police came across the vehicle and went to Simpson’s home only to find him walking home with his wife.

He was subsequently breathalysed.

Sheriff Herald fined him £1,000 and banned him from driving for 18 months, saying he had taken into account Simpson’s plea at the earliest available opportunity.
