Santa prepares to visit Oban

For once, I took my own advice and had a quiet weekend and took time to stop and smell the roses – or, in this instance – the Christmas trees at St Conan’s Kirk, and I can now say I officially feel Christmassy.

What a wonderful event it was – congratulations and thank you to the organisers and everyone who took part and decorated a tree.

Now I can’t wait for this weekend because I get to be an elf again with Oban and Lorn Lions.

Santa will be visiting Homebase this year and he’s told me he’s got lots of presents to bring with him for all the boys and girls who visit him on Saturday between 11am and 3pm. I can’t wait!

I’m also very relaxed because I’ve now almost finished my Christmas shopping without leaving Oban or shopping online. The range of gifts available was especially good this year and I didn’t even struggle to decide what to get people.

If in doubt, Love Oban vouchers fitted the bill perfectly as so many of the local businesses accept them, and you can get anything from a haircut to golf balls, so everyone is happy.

It’s time now to start enjoying the run up to Christmas and all it entails, with nativity plays in schools and churches, the Rotary carol concert on Sunday December 16 and lots and lots of excuses to go out to eat, drink and be merry. It’s also worth taking time to share a little Christmas cheer with people who are on their own. Why not take a wee packet of biscuits and give an hour of your time to visit someone who could use some company or make a donation to one of the fantastic local charities who support those in need.

Last week’s photo was of the building that houses Oban Electrical Services in Stevenson Street and this week’s isn’t too far away.
