Drink driv­ing warn­ing for fes­tive pe­riod

Traf­fic po­lice in the High­lands and Is­lands are urg­ing mo­torists not to drink and drive dur­ing the fes­tive pe­riod, with three driv­ers al­ready charged.

Lo­cal of­fi­cers are sup­port­ing a na­tional cam­paign to pre­vent and tackle the crimes of drink or drug driv­ing.

Three driv­ers have al­ready been charged with drink drive of­fences since the cam­paign be­gan on De­cem­ber 1. Two men, aged 49 and 56, are due to ap­pear from cus­tody to­day fol­low­ing of­fences at the week­end and a 37-year-old woman was due to ap­pear in court at a later date.

The cam­paign will run through­out the fes­tive pe­riod.

Any­one with con­cerns about a sus­pected drink or drug driver is urged to con­tact 101 or 999 if it is an emer­gency to play their part in help­ing po­lice of­fi­cers keep peo­ple safe.
