Argyll men and women to receive honours

A number of men and women from Argyll and Bute, and the Highlands and Islands have been named in the New Year’s Honours list, writes David McPhee.

Oban monument conservati­onist John Beaton, who works for Historic Environmen­t Scotland, receives an OBE for services to the built environmen­t and the community in Argyll.

Alistair Livingston, a volunteer from Mull, also receives an OBE for his services to the Coastguard. He is part of the Tobermory Coastguard Rescue Team.

Jennifer Minto, chairwoman of the Islay WW100 group, has been given an OBE for services to World War One commemorat­ion and the community in Islay.

Jonathan Eugene Hart, from Spean Bridge, who volunteers at Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, was given an OBE for services to mountain rescue in Scotland and to charity.

Sheriff Colin Mackenzie DL, of Lewis, has been given an OBE for services to the communitie­s of the Western and Northern Isles.

Mairi Levack, from North Uist, was awarded an OBE for services to sport and young people on the Islands of North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist.

Councillor for Mid Argyll, Donald MacMillan, from Lochgilphe­ad, received a BEM for services to local government.

An OBE also went to Graham Bell from Argyll who spent 24 years as the CEO of the Kibble Group – a specialist centre for young people at risk, and is a founding director of The Leader (Scotland), which helps with personal and business growth.

Mr Bell received the title for services to education, residentia­l child care and social enterprise.

Duncan MacInnes, from Skye, will also be able to add an OBE to his name for his services to the arts and natural environmen­t in Sleat.
