Lismore pupils bring Christmas cheer

-

Lismore Primary School’s Christmas activities began on December 10 when they entertained the community at the annual Holly Lunch in aid of Lismore Community Transport.

Dressed in Christmas jumpers and elf hats, the children performed songs and recited poems before joining the audience in singing some festive carols.

The celebrations continued on Tuesday December 18 when parents, friends and the community were invited to a Victorian Christmas Experience. The event was a real taste of Christmas in Victorian times, with children and staff dressed as Victorians.

Guests were first invited to take part in a quiz to find out about the many Christmas traditions which began in the Victorian era. The children were able to demonstrate their knowledge of these by helping with the answers. They also showed visitors how they had made crackers, Christmas cards and wrapping paper.

The guests were then invited into a brightly lit Victorian Street where they were offered mulled spicy punch, roast chestnuts and Christmas cake. There were also some treats to buy, including gingerbread snowflakes and bird seed baubles.

A town crier welcomed everyone before introducing the afternoon’s entertainment – a short Nativity in the form of a poem, with carols for everyone to join in, followed by a selection of fun poems and songs and rousing renditions of We wish you a Merry Christmas and Jingle Bells.

There were then cups of tea and mince pies for all, rounding off a festive and enjoyable start to the Christmas season.
