View from the Chamber

What a fantastic year of events we’ve had at Lochaber Chamber of Commerce.

We’ve hosted a business breakfast with Charlotte Wright, chief executive officer of Highlands and Islands Enterprise; a late lunch with Fergus Ewing MSP, cabinet secretary for the rural economy; two GDPR guidance seminars and an employment law seminar.

We’ve also held regular events that let newer members introduce what they do and site visits that allow us a peek behind the scenes at some of our bigger employers, including Marine Harvest.

We’ve also run training sessions on getting the best out of digital technology, social media for tourism and a Chinese visitors workshop with a Chinese cultural expert from Glasgow University, as well as a tourism panel event with key industry figures during Lochaber Ideas Week.

We brought a wide range of events aimed at inspiring the whole community. We ran business workshops on leadership, creativity and social media, plus mental wellness in business and the ultimate networking event – Around Lochaber in 80 Tables. Question Time offered everyone the chance to put their issues to politicians, while Eddie the Eagle and Alastair Campbell gave us inspiration and insight into the real people behind the public image.

We topped it all off with a gala dinner where inspirational tech entrepreneur Dale Murray wowed us with the story of her fight to build her business.

We’re delighted at the attendance and great feedback we’ve had from members about the events in 2018 and look forward to bringing you even more great business events in 2019. If you’d like to come along, give us a call about joining the chamber on 01397 705765 or visit www. lochaberchamber.co.uk
