Lots to look forward to in Lochaber

-

The start of a new year for many of us is a time to reflect and reboot, and also a time to look forward.

But as we peer into the fog that is Brexit, not knowing what sort of deal will be brokered and how we will fare in Scotland, it is tempting to think there is nothing but doom and gloom. But actually, here in Lochaber, there is a lot to celebrate.

The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List saw four people honoured for services to Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, arts and the natural environment, and sport and young people. And while we are delighted to add our congratulations to all recipients, we also know that for everyone recognised here, there are many more who devote their working life and leisure time to helping others. We are truly fortunate that we live in communities that look out for each other and where people think nothing of offering their time and talents wherever there is a need.

In true Christmas spirit, Corpach couple Stanley and Carol Ross organised a special lunch where a dozen homeless and vulnerable people sat down to a full traditional Christmas Day feast thanks to the generosity of volunteers and businesses. And on the lead up to Christmas and in the weeks and months ahead, Lochaber Foodbank will offer essentials and love to those in need.

While there may be plenty of uncertainty in the coming months, one thing that we can be sure of is that where there is need, there will be local people stepping in to help.
