Extinction Rebellion to hold first Fort William meeting
Environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion is hosting its first public meeting in Fort William.
Taking place on Tuesday January 22 at Duncansburgh Church Hall, organisers hope to engage with Lochaber residents about the aims and objectives of the group.
Established in 2018, Extinction Rebellion is an international social movement that aims to drive radical change through non-violent protest to minimise species extinction and avert climate breakdown.
Campaigners want local and national government to enact legally binding policy measures to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2025 and reduce consumption levels. The movement gained global attention in November 2018 after thousands of people took part in co-ordinated action in London in what was described as ‘one of the biggest acts of peaceful civil disobedience in the UK in decades’.
