Betty Paxton is believed to be Oban and Lorn’s oldest resident. A congratulatory telegram from the Queen marked her special birthday celebration at North Argyll House in Oban. The day was spent with family and friends and a visit from Depute Provost Roddy McCuish and Councillor Elaine Robertson, who brought gifts and the good wishes of Argyll and Bute Council. Also there was the Reverend Dugald Cameron from Oban’s Church of Scotland, who conveyed his best regards and that of Betty’s former congregation, where she was a regular worshipper for many years. Betty credits her long life to ‘hard work on the farm and the occasional wee sherry’.
