Funding energises islands
A renewable energy project in Iona has scooped a £183,777 from a funding pot.
Iona Renewables is one of 15 UK-based charities allocated a chunk of £2.1million from the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme.
Also benefiting from a £202,809 share is The Energy Advisory Service SCIO for the Western Isles. The project will host a roadshow, conduct home visits and introduce a referral programme aimed at reducing fuel poverty in more than 1,000 remote households across the islands.
Iona Renewables is exploring ways of cleaning up heat. It will also be looking at how to deal with energy vulnerability in inaccessible areas such as the Inner Hebrides.
The successful projects include delivering energy advice to vulnerable households, working with the health sector to support people at risk from cold damp homes, installing innovative heat networks and developing software to enable low income homes to purchase discounted energy.
