Residents warned of online scam

The Oban Times - - NEWS -

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles) Trading Standards are advising residents to be aware of a mail scam currently in circulation, which claims to be from TV licensing.

The message states the recipient has either fallen behind with payments, or is owed a TV licensing refund.

A payment link on the message directs you to a fake version of the official TV licensing site, and there have been reports of bank accounts being emptied by the scammers – see https:// www.bbc.co.uk/news/ uk-46765681

A Trading Standards spokesperson advised: ‘If you suspect an email might be from a scammer, do not click on any links or open any attachments in the email.

‘Scammers may trick you into installing viruses or giving away your personal and bank details.

‘If you have given any bank details you should contact your bank immediately.’
