Biggest Parents’ Evening focuses on apprentices
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Argyll is hosting a Scotland’s Biggest Parents’ Evening event along with Scottish Sea Farms (SSF) to mark the end of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2019.
The event, aimed at SSF employees and partners who are parents or carers, will take place at the Scottish Sea Farms conference room at South Shian, Benderloch, from 12.30pm to 2pm on Friday March 8.
Around 71,800 job openings are expected in the Highlands, Islands and Argyll and Bute between 2018 and 2028, driven entirely by replacement demand.
Developed with Skills Development Scotland (SDS), Scotland’s Biggest Parents’ Evening will see all 21 DYW regional groups partner with employers to showcase apprenticeship and other career opportunities through events across the country.
Friday’s event will consist of an informal talk with guest speakers including Graham Campbell from SQA, Margaret Bennett from SDS plus modern apprentices from Scottish Sea Farms talking about their roles within the company.
A spokesperson from DYW Argyll said: ‘We are delighted to be partnering with Scottish Sea Farms for this BPE event to explore routes into aquaculture careers in Argyll and Bute.’
As well as trying to encourage more young people to choose an apprenticeship, the BPE project will be tapping into the power of the Developing the Young Workforce network to raise awareness of apprenticeships through this campaign during Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
Other aims of the project are to increase the understanding of apprenticeships and to debunk myths and misconceptions.
Alison MacPhee, learning and development coordinator with Scottish Sea Farms, added: ‘Come along and see what fantastic opportunities SSF has available for you.’
DYW Argyll is hosting a series of free events in Dunoon, Campbeltown and Oban to raise awareness and understanding among parents about the career opportunities available in their area.
