KENNETH FERGUSON
Kenneth Ferguson Electrical Contractors is reaping the rewards of its training programme, with three apprentices making great strides at the award-winning Connel company.
Matthew Kelly, Oban, is in his third year and about to apply for his final test. He came through the Right to Work scheme before starting his apprenticeship and plays football for Oban Saints in his spare time. David Cameron, 17, from Mull, attended Oban High School, staying away from home in the hostel and he carried out work experience with the firm before his apprenticeship. He plays rugby for Oban Lorne 1st XV.
Daniel MacVicar, Oban, gained great academic results but instead of a degree was determined to follow up his apprenticeship. He plays shinty for Oban Camanachd.
All three spent 20 weeks of their first year on block-release at West of Scotland University, Paisley, travelling down on Sunday and staying in digs till Friday. Kenneth Ferguson said: ‘They have proved a great asset to the team and have been busy learning the latest developments in the industry which is an ever-changing place and we’re constantly looking at new ideas and technologies. It means our areas of expertise now cover everything from fire alarms, CCTV and solar PV to electric car charging, LED lighting upgrades and air source heat pumps.’ Established in 2006, Kenneth’s company has carved out a substantial business in the West Highlands and islands, from Campbeltown to Fort William and the islands. Its domestic, commercial and industrial services were recognised when it scooped Best MediumSized Contractor at the SELECT Awards 2018.
