Smiles galore as ACDC tribute band rock Oban

A father and son who helped to bring an ACDC tribute act to Oban said it was ‘brilliant’ to see them in the Corran Halls.

Hundreds of people showed up on Saturday to watch Livewire’s high-energy performance and everyone left with a smile on their face.

The event was made possible thanks to an 18-year-old Oban man and his dad.

Ben and Richard Fothergill, who are big fans of the band, persuaded them to play in Oban in a bid to encourage others to do the same.

Speaking to The Oban Times, Ben said: ‘They are a brilliant tribute band. One of the best in the UK.

‘In Oban, there’s not another scene other than traditional music. I thought bringing them to Oban might influence other bands and genres to come.’

Ben’s dad, Richard, echoed his son’s thoughts.

He said: ‘It feels brilliant to have them in Oban. The feedback has been phenomenal. I knew there would be quite a few interested, but I did not think we would get the reaction we did.

‘Everyone likes the traditional stuff, but there’s a lot of people that do like this, the ticket sales have proved that.’

Having seen the band many times before, ahead of the gig, Richard said: ‘No one will leave here disappointed.’

While driving to Oban, the band admitted they had to pull over to admire the ‘breath-taking views’. Speaking ahead of the performance, they said: ‘We won’t be leaving any energy up there, when we come off we are absolutely knackered.’

The show ended with a bang, literally, with four cannons shooting smoke out from the stage.
