BEHIND THE SCENE at Atlantis

Staff news

We’re delighted to welcome three new casual leisure attendants to the team: Finbar Dunne, James MacIntyre and Alex McGuire.

The past few weeks have also been busy for staff training, including a pool plant operators course and first aid training, including all our lifeguards are being trained to use our new spinal board. Previously, if we had had a suspected spinal injury in the pool, we had to wait for an ambulance to arrive to get the casualty safely out of the pool but now we will be able to do it ourselves, saving valuable time.

Jack Macaulay completed his Level 2 gym instructor course in Glasgow with support from Atlantis this month. Jack is actively looking to increase his experience in the fitness side of Atlantis and has been helping in the gym with Future Friday and some regular customers. He’s also been busy teaching his own Grit and Body Pump classes.

Gymnastics programme Our gymnastics team will benefit very soon from a new programme set up by Scottish Gymnastics. Atlantis has been chosen as one of only four centres in Scotland to trial the new format. As part of this commitment to Atlantis, the brand new Air Track arrived at the end of January which will be a huge asset to help gymnasts of all ages and stages. Future Friday

In anticipation of their impending transition to the high school, Future Friday has started for all P7s. This is the second year of Future Friday at Atlantis.

It is designed as a transition event where the current P7s can meet children from other schools as together they make good use of the Atlantis facilities.

Swimming, soft play and a roller disco are just some of the attractions. Some of the children will have met Kevin Keen as he travels around local schools advertising the event.

Cricket and athletics Active Schools have been working in partnership with us for the inter-schools cricket and athletics competitions. The schools have brought their P4s and P5s for athletics and P7s for cricket.

With more than 150 children at each event, it has been fantastic to host them at the centre. A big thank you goes to Oban Cricket Club for running the sessions for the children alongside our own Atlantis team.

Tennis academy

The tennis academy has moved from the normal Sunday slot to two after-school slots on Mondays and Thursdays. We’re continuing to partner with the academy as together we develop the potential of younger players.
