Sixth win in a row for Oban men

-

The Oban men’s hockey team made the journey to Helensburgh last weekend to take on a young but well drilled Clydesdale side.

Some of the regulars were unavailable so there were a few changes to the starting formation with several players in new positions: Stuart Head playing in goals, George Gauley playing in centre-mid defence and Matt playing as striker. Despite the changes, Oban put on one of their best displays of passing and team work this season, with great play up the wings and goals being created right from the 16m line.

Theo Andrews continued to add to his goal tally with three superb goals (two back sticks from the edge of the D), George Gauley clinched his first of the season, Andrew Hodge scored two and Asher Petit scored two (one penalty flick).

Jensen Binnie and Zeph Petit continued their good form on the wings, sending plenty of good balls to the base line. Lorne Binnie and Ryan Jones were excellent at the back with a solid defensive effort and good return of the ball up the wings.

This weekend’s MOTM was Gavin Yates for some great distribution of balls from the back. A big thank you to Donald Histead for umpiring.

The Oban team have shown great form over the previous games with this one being the sixth consecutive win in the West Division 3.

However, the team face one of their biggest challenges of the season this coming weekend when they take on the league leaders Anchor from Paisley.

New players (male, female, teens and older) of all abilities always welcome to the Oban club’s training sessions at the Oban High School Astro pitches, Thursday evenings from 6.30-8pm.
