Fort hit 200 goals mark after heavy Keith defeat

-

Highland League

Saturday was another day to forget for Fort William FC, who have now conceded more than 200 goals this season.

Keith showed no mercy in their Highland League encounter at Kynoch Park, inflicting another double-figure defeat on the Lochaber side thanks to the aptly-named Cammy Keith. The striker, and Keith captain, enjoyed a fruitful afternoon in front of goal scoring five of his side’s 11 goals.

The result means that the Fort have now conceded 210 goals in just 18 games, and have a goal difference of -193.

It took all of three minutes for Keith, both the team and the player, to open the scoring and after 10 minutes the home side were two-nil up. Pressure continued to be heaped on the Fort William defence and Keith soon scored another two to make it 4-0 on the half-hour mark.

The Fort began to get a stronger grip on the match and managed to see out the rest of the first half to keep the deficit at four.

However, Keith came out firing after the break and made it five just two minutes after the restart to sink any hopes of a Fort William resurgence. Max Berton made it six for the home side before Keith completed his hat-trick on the hour mark.

At this point the Fort had eyes on damage limitations, with goalkeeper Mateusz Kulbacki having a particularly busy day between the posts. The visitors were buoyed by the return of Scott Hunter to the matchday squad and he eventually got onto the field when he replaced Jordan Morrison in midfield midway through the second half.

Hunter wasn’t able to prevent Keith hitting double figures, however, and in a calamitous three-minute spell, Fort conceded another three goals as the defence really began to tire. Captain Keith eventually rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute with his fifth of the day to take the total tally to 11 for his team.

Fort William remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the Highland League with just two draws and no wins so far this season.

The side were in action last night (Wednesday) against Cove Rangers at Claggan Park. However, this match took place after the Lochaber Times went to print.

They are away this Saturday, March 30, to nearest rivals Clachnacuddin.
