Enchanted by season’s greetings

October is one of my favourite months, especially if you get sunny, dry days.

There is nothing nicer than getting wrapped up for a walk, scuffing through the fallen leaves and being surrounded by the red, golds and greens that make this such a beautiful season.

It makes up for the darker nights and mornings, although it is nice to coorie in at night and shut the curtains, light the candles and the stove.

Dunollie woods is one of my favourite walks at this time of year – up to Dunollie through the woods and then back to town along the shore – although if you have children it may be worth booking into some of the wonderful workshops that Dunollie has through the school holidays.

I like the sound of them for myself and may need to borrow a child from someone to take part. More details can be found on the Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds website or on Oban Town Diary.

One of the other nice things to do on a clear autumn day is take the ferry over to Mull, even if you get no further than Craignure for a wee wander.

The light and crisp air of the crossing is amazing and it also has a much more peaceful feeling after the hustle and bustle of the summer months.

Just because it’s autumn doesn’t mean that Ganavan should be ignored either. This is the perfect time for kite flying, a bit windier than summer but not gale force, hopefully.

Oban Phoenix Cinema has some great films on for the holidays. Asterix looks fantastic, as does The Lion King and Toy Story 4 – perfect for the days when the weather isn’t quite so good or a wee treat.

And not forgetting Atlantis Leisure, where you could spend a whole day and not have anyone complain about being bored.
