Male mental health in the spotlight at Oban Phoenix

-

Male mental health will take centre stage at Oban Phoenix Cinema on October 28 with the screening of the film CONNECT.

CONNECT is the directorial debut of Marilyn Edmond and follows the story of Brian (Kevin Guthrie), a young man battling with his mental health.

The story of Connect is born from a dark place but is ultimately a love story, helped along by humour and a refreshing authenticity.

Kevin Guthrie, previously seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewold, gives a breathtaking performance as Brian, a lonely insecure young man who is struggling with anxiety and inner demons. Like a heartbreaking amount of men today, Brian decides to take his own life. While standing on a cliff edge in the darkness, about to meet his end, Brian is grabbed by a stranger: Jeff (Stephen McCole), a man who offers to be his friend.

Moments of optimism clash with dark despair in this strikingly filmed tale shot in North Berwick. Suicide among young men is a major issue in the UK today. Connect is an ambitious attempt to confront the issue in a heartfelt drama.

This captivating and affecting story promises to stay with viewers in the days and weeks after they leave the cinema.

The film premiered at Glasgow Film Festival in February and will have its International Premiere at Orlando Film Festival in October.

As well as the film’s screening in Oban on October 28, there will also be a question and answer session with the film’s director Marilyn Edmond after the film has been shown.
