Oban Otters had a successful Argyll and Clyde Championships, with five golds, six silvers and 10 bronze medals.

Seventeen-year-old Sam Coates took three gold medals, one in the 100m breast stroke, 100m free style and 200m individual medley. Fourteen-year-old Jessica Main took gold in the 100m breast stroke and 12-year-old Kai MacKechnie took gold for the 100m back crawl.

Jessica said: ‘I train four times a week and my coach said my hard work has paid off’. Kai said: ‘I tried to swim as fast as I could and I am pleased with the result.’

Twenty-two swimmers travelled to the Argyll and Clyde Championships in Dunoon on Saturday September 28 and everyone came home with at least one personal best swim time.

Eight-year-old Riley Anderson had a successful first competition, coming home with three bronze medals. Fourteen-year-old Edie Elliott came home with the most medals, with three silvers and two bronze medals, sharing the podium with club mate Jessica Main for the 100m breast stroke.

Ten-year-old Lily Robinson also had a successful day with two silver and two bronze medals. Marco MacGregor, 10, took a silver and Ewan Dowd, 13, a bronze medal.

The club also helped the event by providing volunteer time keepers, many of whom were only recently trained and all enjoyed the experience of being close to the action instead of watching from the stands.

Head coach Amanda Coates said: ‘I am proud of the whole club and their achievements at this meet.

‘We haven’t had such a big team at a competition for a long time and we’re already training for our next competitions in Larkhall and Tollcross.’
