PLOCKTON AND KYLE

Plockton and Kyle Free Church held an Italian and quiz evening in Kyle Church hall on September 21, when a large crowd enjoyed the evening and £700 was raised to be split between Kyleakin Connections and Lochalsh Leisure Centre.

Recent deaths with connections to Plockton include Alison Fraser in Edinburgh; Margaret Macrae in Aberdeen; Ian Love in Glasgow; and Norma Dickinson in Edinburgh. Hamish Matheson recently died in Kyle aged 90.

Plockton and District Horticultural and Arts and Crafts Society held an evening talk in Plockton Hall on September 25. It was given by Sue Pomeroy and was entitled The Passion of a Garden Tour Guide.

Plockton and District Community Council met recently in Plockton Hall. Among the items discussed were the continuing absence of white lines on Plockton roads; the return of the free-roaming cows to the village, which has caused anger from residents and has still not been resolved (the community council is to meet with the crofters and the National Trust for Scotland to discuss the problem); no grass cutting has been done in the village this summer; parking on Harbour Street is still a problem, especially with the increase of camper van numbers, with the only solution being an extension to the existing car park; a donation of £250 was agreed in principle to the village play park; the telephone kiosk at Plockton High School is being removed by BT – the community council decided not to object; and the present council had its final meeting on Monday, after which all the members stood down.
