Scotish Amateur Cup

South Lochaber Thistle crashed out of the Scottish Cup in the second round after a 5-2 defeat at home to the young men of Kirkcaldy YMCA.

The Jags took the lead after only four minutes with tenacious striker Danny Mackintosh surging forward to score with an assist from Lewis Campbell.

However, the Kinlochleven outfit were caught flat footed in response to a ball over the top and the visitors equalised within the minute.

SLT did not help themselves with two further defensive slips costing the side dearly as they were clinically punished and left 3-1 down at half time.

After a thorough talking to from the coaching staff at half time, the Jags were much improved in the second half and veteran midfielder Dave Forbes drew a good save from the YMCA keeper.

However, as the Jags pushed on, Kirkcaldy whipped in a free kick to secure a fourth before SLT failed to defend a short corner and combative midfielder Cameron Grant was unlucky to divert the ball into the net for a fifth.

As the match dwindled, skipper Martin Munro slotted home a consolation to leave the final score 5-2.

Manager Alan Gray said: ‘Overall, we were thoroughly outplayed today. It was a bad day at the office and Kirkcaldy caught us cold.

‘We need to be much better: with our professionalism, our fitness, our team work and our support of each other if we are going to achieve our potential this season.’
