Curling club back in action

Oban Curling Club participated in the first match of the new curling season organised by the Argyll Curling Province at The Waterfront Ice Rink, Greenock on Tuesday October 8.

The Oban Club joined teams from Millport, Bute, Dunoon and Upper Cowal as well as a combined team from Glenorchy and Tighnabruaich with each team playing two games of seven ends each.

Oban were drawn against Upper Cowal and the combined Glenorchy/Tighnabruaich team. The Oban squad consisting of Jack Tollan, Graham Innes and David Howie with Fraser Inglis as skipper. They successfully won both of their games as did the team from Millport, who had played Bute and Dunoon.

As the only two teams to have won both matches Millport and Oban had to have the total number of ends won by each team taken into account to decide the winner and as Millport had won two more ends than Oban they were awarded the Jimmy Brown Trophy.

Further Argyll Province games will take place over the winter with the next game at Greenock taking place on November 5 – when fireworks are expected.

The Oban Club are hoping to organise ‘come and try’ sessions for potential new curlers over the winter and anyone interested in joining such a session should contact Graham Innes on 01631 562290 or email gc19innes@btinternet.com or Fraser Inglis on 01866 822103 or email fraserf1@btinternet.com.

The club would also be pleased to hear from experienced curlers who would be interested in joining the club.
