Festive fun as NLBOT opens up to Oban
Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) is coming on board with this year’s Oban Winter Festival when two whole days of family fun are in the offing.
NLV Pole Star will be open to visitors on Saturday November 16 and Sunday November 17, from 10am to noon and 1pm to 4pm, each day. The team has also been busy clearing out the buoy store which will host live music and stalls from 10am to 4pm on both days.
NLB is the general lighthouse authority responsible for the operation of lighthouses and marine navigation aids around the coasts of Scotland and the Isle of Man. Pole Star and NLV Pharos are both based in Oban where technical operations are carried out.
Base manager Ewen
Mackerchar said: ‘NLB is delighted to be part of the 2019 Winter Festival. The team in Oban has been working hard both on and off the ship and is looking forward to welcoming people of all ages on board.
‘As well as hosting the open day, NLB has cleaned up two buoys and a load of lanterns to help light up the streets and shops during the festival.
It’s great to be involved.’
Construction of buoys and beacons is also carried out at the the town’s workshops.
Captain Michael Smith said: ‘We love coming into Oban. The NLB has a long tradition with the town and everywhere we go people recognise the logo on our shirts and stop to chat.
‘The crew are looking forward to getting involved more through the festival. It should be a fun weekend and we look forward to welcoming the community on board.’
Organisers of the Winter Festival are reminding all those who plan to enter the food competitions that they must have their entry forms in by November 8.
